BIOGRAPHY

Roland Echavarria (Cinematographer)

Roland Echavarria - Photo

Blending the technical world of lighting with a keen eye for composition, Roland repeatedly manages to create vivid and well-layered images. A graduate of the York University Film Department (2006), he has contributed to the innovative work of several young directors.
His work has been screened in film festivals around the world, including LA Short Fest, the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Montreal World Film Festival.
In 2007, he received a nomination for best student cinematography from the Canadian Society of Cinematographers for his work on “The Battery-Powered Duckling”. 2009 has proven to be a productive year for Roland. He finished production on two feature films, “Point Traverse” and “Sight Unseen,” and spent part of the summer in Sarajevo collaborating with Igor Drljaca on his upcoming feature thesis project.
Roland believes that the most important part of being a Cinematographer is to work closely with the director to create the world he/she envisions by orchestrating light, movement, mood, composition and colour palette in flawless motion photography. Roland’s ability to create compelling stories into unforgettable visual panoramas is a testament to this dedication.
